The combination of chicken and waffles baffled me. I always believed waffles to be a sweet treat, crowned with syrups, fruits, honey, ice cream, or any random delicious toppings.
To my amazement, I discovered that many people enjoy chicken and waffles. When I first heard of this unusual hybrid breakfast, I thought the waffle was a replacement for bread or the chicken was cut in thin slices and used for toppings for the waffles.
I soon realized there was more to it. Chicken and waffles have become a popular dish in many restaurants and cafes, and there are plenty of ways to serve them.
There is no correct way to eat it; you can enjoy it however you like. Let’s look at some of the mouthwatering ways to eat chicken and waffles. Some of these recipes may be mind-blowing, and who knows, you may learn some secret tips.
How to eat chicken and waffles (3 Best Ways)
Here are some of the different ways to eat chicken and waffles, starting with one of my favorites.
Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich
I have never had the pleasure of enjoying a fried chicken waffle sandwich, but I want one. I love fried chicken, and I realized it is not a healthy meal, but when you bite into it, the spicy flavor injected in the chicken and delicious coating is so tasty, making it hard to justify the taste.
Cooking this is easy. I am not going to dive into how to make a fried chicken. However, I will say this:
1.) Buy a frozen marinated chicken breast piece and deep fry it. Read the instructions on the box to understand how to cook it. If you are an experienced home chef, you probably know how to marinate and cook fried chicken. A piece of advice, use buttermilk. It will make the chicken soft and moist from the inside.
2.) Your waffle batter should be ready but don’t make the waffles yet. The chicken comes first. The waffles will not take a lot of time to prepare, so we make them at the end before taking the chicken out of the oil. The waffles will be crispy and fluffy. If you plate the waffles before your fried chicken is ready, chances are the waffles will become soft.
3.) It will take approximately 20 minutes to fry the chicken. After 15 minutes, pour the waffle batter into the preheated waffle maker. The waffles will take around 6 minutes to cook.
4.) Take the cooked chicken out of the oil and place it on a kitchen paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
5.) When the waffle maker starts to beep, this means the waffles are ready to be dished on a plate.
6.) Place your fried chicken on the waffle and drizzle it with your favorite savory and spicy sauces. Don’t forget the vegetables. No sandwich is complete without onions, cabbage, and tomatoes. All of this is up to you. Remember, there is no correct way to eat it, so feel free to customize your fried chicken waffle sandwich.
Mayonnaise and chicken waffle
My idea of a savory breakfast is to spread mayonnaise on a toast with shredded chicken. If this is a thing, why not substitute the bread with waffles?
Mayonnaise and chicken waffles require minimum effort.
1.) Boil boneless breast or thigh pieces. You can season it for taste. I believe salt and pepper would be enough for this recipe.
2.) When the chicken is boiled, it is time to shred it. There are two ways to do it. The traditional way is by tearing the chicken into small pieces by hand or by using a hand mixer.
3.) Pour your waffle batter into a preheated waffle maker and let it cook. When the waffles are ready, take them out, put them on a plate, and spread mayonnaise. Don’t add the chicken first because it will be difficult to spread the mayonnaise on top of the chicken.
4.) Once you have generously applied your mayonnaise, add the chicken on top.
An easy recipe, the only thing you need to be perfect is boiling the chicken. If it is hard to swallow, it means the chicken is overcooked.
Stuffed chicken waffle
Stuffed chicken waffle is a delicious recipe that takes roughly 40 minutes to prepare. The chicken will be a waffle batter ingredient poured into the waffle maker.
1.) Add cooked small bite-size chicken pieces into the waffle batter and mix it well.
2.) Heat the waffle maker and pour the batter.
3.) Cook the waffle for approximately 6 minutes.
Another way to prepare stuffed chicken waffles is:
1.) Pour half of the waffle batter into the preheated waffle maker without the chicken.
2.) Add the chicken pieces, spreading them on the entire batter.
3.) Add the remaining waffle batter on the chicken and close the waffle maker lid.
4.) Cook the waffle for approximately 6 minutes.
As you can see, there are two ways to prepare stuffed chicken waffles. The second way is my preferred choice. However, there is no right way to eat it.
The right way – Hand or Fork?
Know that you understand the big deal about chicken and waffles, what is the right way to eat them? Should you use your bare hands or be sophisticated and use a knife and fork?
Well, it all depends on you and what type of combination you have prepared. For example, the fried chicken waffle sandwich is best enjoyed with bare hands. You can’t use a knife and fork.
However, if you are enjoying a sandwich filled with sauces, spilling out of the sandwich, you might want to break it down. If you bite into the sandwich with your bare hands, the sauce will spill out of every side, your face will be a mess, and it will be tough to eat it. So it is best to enjoy the chicken separately, preferably using a utensil, and eat the waffle-covered sauce alone.
If you don’t want to get your hands messy, a knife and fork are the way to go. Break the chicken and waffle, eat it in one bite or eat them individually.
